Man: Hi there. I couldn’t help but notice how beautiful you are.
Woman: Thanks. I’m not open to dating, just to be clear.
Man: Hmm. Are you married?
Woman: Why do you ask?
Man: Because if someone has a claim on you, I won’t encroach on his territory. But if you’re single, I’ll keep trying.
Woman: Well, you should know, someone DOES have a claim on me. I do. You don’t have to defer to some hypothetical other person in my life to know how to interact with me. You could treat me as my own autonomous person, and respect what I want.
