Simon: Hi Lily. I'll be in New York tomorrow and I wanted to talk to you first.
Lily: Did Lane tell you what happened?
Simon: Yeah.
Lily: How did you react?
Simon: I know you’re a thoughtful person and you have noble intentions.
Lily: Buuut...?
Simon: I only heard one side of the story.
Lily: That's not the part that goes after the "but."
Simon: *sigh* Okay, I'll get to the "but."

Simon: She said you made it sound like it wasn't a big deal. Like you were dismissing how much it hurts her to repeatedly be judged for being gay.
Lily: Oh.
Simon: And if I had known your friend Tyler was going to be there, I wouldn't have invited Lane in the first place.
Lily: Are you mad at me because Tyler was there?
Simon: I'm not mad at you. But Lane said that as long as you're friends with Tyler, she can't be friends with you.
Lily: What do you think of that?
Simon: You have to set your boundaries somewhere. I respect hers.

Lily: What if Lane said she couldn't be friends with YOU anymore if you're friends with ME? What would you do then?
Simon: I don't think she'd say that. But I'd try to talk some sense into her. I'd say "Come on, Lane, are you really going to jeopardize our friendship over someone you KNOW is really important to me?"

Anna: Don't tell me you and Simon are just friends. I saw the way you looked at him. Lily: Well, we're not going to date. Simon doesn't want to get married. He's asexual. AND he's an atheist.
Anna: Joe was an atheist when I first met him.
Lily: That's like the LEAST relevant point I mentioned.

Lily: Look, just because I have deep feelings for Simon, that doesn't mean we can't be friends.
Anna: But won't you always be wanting more from him?
Lily: Maybe on some level, but I can manage my expectations.
Anna: Remember how you felt when Ben wanted to date you and YOU just wanted to be friends with him?
Lily: Ben never WANTED to be FRIENDS with me! He SAID he did, but after he gave up on hoping to convince me to date him, it's like he stopped caring about me entirely.
