Don't Get Any Ideas

Relationship Anarchy

Comic Text Lily: Do you know about relationship anarchy?
Simon: No, what's that?
Lily: It's when you're ALLOWED to do anything with anyone. You can't have a primary relationship that imposes boundaries on other ones. Each of your relationships is its own autonomous unit.
Simon: That's basically how I operate. What about you?
Lily: I want a monogamous marriage someday. But I like how relationship anarchy forces you to challenge the default assumptions of romance. I'd rather custom-build my relationship than start with all the cultural baggage that comes with monogamy.
(image of Lily and someone else pulling at a pile of luggage pieces that say "possessiveness," "grand romantic gestures," "expensive gifts," "unspoken expectations.")

Dryer Problems

Comic Text Lily: It's like once you're in a relationship, you're not ALLOWED to be attracted to other people.
(Lily is trying to turn the dryer on, it's suddenly dark)
Lily: Why won't this turn on?
Simon: I think the power went out. We can dry this stuff at the laundromat.
Lily: No, I can't get in a car.
Simon: Oh yeah. I'll go by myself then. I can take both-
Lily: NO, Simon, it's dangerous to drive in this weather.
Simon: It's not that bad.
(Lily starts tearing up and looks really upset)
Lily: I'll figure something else out. We can hang everything up. PLEASE don't go.
Simon: Okay, I won't.

Driving in the Rain

Comic Text Lily: I know what you're gonna say. "Lily, you don't even wear a bike helmet. You walk barefoot through the woods! And you're afraid of a little rain?"
Simon: I wasn't going to say that.
Lily: Fear isn't logically consistent. All it knows is, I was driving in the rain when I flipped the car over and almost killed me and my sister. Sure, you'd probably be fine driving across town. But my brain is screaming with images of what could happen.
Simon: I get it. I know other people with PTSD.
Lily: You can do what you want, don't let me drag you into my phobias.
Simon: I'm not going anywhere.
(Lily is crying, Simon hugs her)

Lily's Reasoning

Comic Text Simon: The power's back.
Lily: Oh, thank GOD.
Simon: You okay, Lily?
Lily: I'll be fine, don't worry about me.
Simon: I'm kind of touched that you care about my well-being so much that you don't want me to drive to the laundromat.
Lily: Not with my CLOTHES. I wouldn't want anything to happen to them.
Simon: Oh, is that all it is?
Lily: Besides, it's not a good time for you to die. You're a heathen. You might burn in hell for eternity.
Simon: How thoughtful of you.

Church

Comic Text (Lily is in church)
Pastor Jones: Love your enemies. Some people preach tolerance. Tolerance is NOT love. Think of that person you just CAN'T STAND. Does the Lord look down on them at say, "yeah, they're pretty terrible, but I tolerate them." NO! The LORD LOVES THEM MORE than YOU can IMAGINE LOVING ANYBODY. So when you see that one guy who can't POSSIBLY have any GOOD qualities, think of how the Lord sees him.
